Book Review: "The Mourning After" by Adriane Leigh

Synopsis:

Still reeling from a painful past, Georgia Montgomery escapes her pain by buying a beach house on the North Carolina coast. She hopes a summer filled with sun, sand, margaritas and best friends will heal her, but when an unexpected visitor shows up, her past, present and future collide.
Georgia is instantly drawn to Tristan Howell, the bronze-skinned, golden-haired stranger with an easy smile and eyes the deepest shade of green she's ever seen. She tries to deny the depth of her feelings for him, but just like an addiction- one look, one touch, one taste is never enough. With Tristan she loses control of the lonely world she's constructed for herself and learns that moving forward isn't possible while she's still chained to the events of her past.
Before the summer is over friendships will be tested, hearts shattered and lives changed, and waiting for Georgia to find herself may destroy them all.

Review:
5 Stars

"I want you, all of you, Georgia. And I want you to want me too."

Full of romance, passion, and angst, "The Mourning After," kept me turning pages anxious to read more
I want to start by saying, this book was not what I expected.. at all.
It was so much better

The book starts off with Georgia, the lead character, buying a house at the NC shore. She invites her best friends, Silas and Drew to tag along for the summer with plans of fixing up the house. Drew invites her new boyfriend, Gavin, along and he brings along a friend.
My, my, my.. Tristan.

Right from the moment they meet, Georgia knows she's in trouble. I mean, who could turn down a walking sex God? So yeah, trouble indeed. You see, Georgia has a boyfriend whom she lives with back home in DC, Kyle. Do you see where this is going?
Her relationship with Kyle goes way back to their childhood. He was the person she could always count on.. he knew her secret.. her past.

As usual, things don't go as planned.. so much more happens. So.Much.More.
Tristan and Georgia develop a friendship that quickly turns into something she never expected.  Queue the HOTNESS in this book.

"I can feel what I do to you: your heart pounding, your chest heaving, your nipples hardening (...) your legs shifting back and forth, begging me to touch you."

"I want my tongue all over your body."

My heart raced and ached for Tristan and Georgia. There is so much passion between them, you feel their chemistry sizzling off the pages.

"Every night I go to bed and I think about you. Every morning I get out of bed and can't wait to see you..."

"I want to be with you. I can't get you out of my head."

There were moments when I wanted to smack some sense into Georgia, but I also fully understand why she does and says certain things. Her story is just.. heart-breaking. That was one sad scene to read, let me tell ya. So yes, I understand her, which is why, even though I got pissed sometimes, I never felt like I disliked her character. But her actions and certain decisions, led to a lot of angsty, page-turning scenes.

"I've waited  so long to feel anything and you make me feel, so I'm not letting you go without a fight."

Overall, this was a very well written book. I definitely consider it a must-read. There were a few details that reminded be of Thoughtless by SC Stephens but the general plot had it's own thing going on, so it was just a great read. There was a lot of character development and the story line had a smooth flow.  I have to say, I love Silas and Drew! These two always speak their minds, without filter, definitely adding humor to an emotional plot.

Regarding the ending.. I really don't know how to express my feelings.. so I'll just write what literally happened..
The book was finally in a good place... great place really.. and then.. the end --> my reaction: "DON'T END NOW!!!! I WANT MORE!!!!" (with a huge grin across my face, mind you)
So yes, when I read those wonderful words saying that the story was going to continue in a sequel expected to be released this fall.. my other reaction was: "SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!" :)

So, you can say, I liked the ending and loved the book!!!

Highly recommend you read it!

"It felt like I was finally right where I wanted to be. It felt like I was home."

ARC was given in exchange to an honest review. Thanks Adriane! :)

Blog Tour Stop + Giveaway!!: "A Lucky Second Chance" by Nickie Seidler

Giveaway at the bottom of post!!!

A Lucky Second Chance

Synopsis:

What do you do when life doesn't go as planned?

Nobody plans to be abused. Emma Dunn certainly didn't. When life with her fiance takes a terrifying turn, she flees to her hometown of Chicago without looking back, and her brother Kevin takes her in. Life is slowly getting better for Emma, thanks in no small part to real-life Prince Charming, Nathan Weber. He sweeps her off her feet, almost literally, and dotes on her from day one.

But when the unexpected happens and their pasts catch up with them, can their fairy tale still have a happy ending?

4 Stars

"When I looked in the mirror, I saw a broken woman."

The way "A Lucky Second Chance" begins, pretty much sets the pace for the entire book. And let me tell you, it's a fast one full of secrets and plot twists.
The female lead character, Emma Dunn, is basically escaping from the sad reality her life had become. Leaving everything behind in Florida, she heads back home to Chicago, where her very hot and successful brother, Kevin (whom I had a crush on.. just saying) was going to help her out until she got back on her feet.

On her way to rebuilding her life back, Emma starts a new job Kevin got her.  One afternoon, on her way out from work, she runs into (like, literally), Nathan Webber. Instantly, she felt a connection towards him and of course, an insane attraction. But then, with a hot guy like Nate? Who wouldn't? *wink*
A few events later, Emma and Nate begin the adventure they call a relationship.. because yeah, it's anything but boring.

"I'm just not used to somebody loving me like you do. I'm used to a whole different love that I figured out was never real."

Nate is a very romantic guy, always gentle and patient with Emma. You can tell right away that their feelings are very deep and genuine and that they really get to know each other.

"You're like an angel to me. You're the best thing that's come into my life."

"To the moon and back. I love you." - Nate

"My love for you is unconditional, Emma. You are my one and only true love."

"... my best friend, my lover, my soulmate, my everything." - Emma

Just when you think things are okay and slowing down in the book, queue the mini plot twist.
But hey, what can you expect when they both have their share of secrets?

"A Lucky Second Chance" is the type of book that has a lot of things going on. There isn't just "one problem" or "one bad guy," but several. To me, this is something that makes the general story line quite interesting. So yes, this is a good book.

"This just proved to me that anybody could have anything in life; you just need a lucky second chance."

Excerpt:

Nathan turned into an alley, wrapped his arms around my waist, and gently pushed me backwards against the brick wall. He slid his hand up and pushed my hair aside out of my face, and gently grabbed my head, tilted it back, and locked his luscious lips to mine. He stood there kissing me as our tongues met, twirling inside our mouths. He was heavenly. Holy shit. God, he knew how to kiss. I loved the feel of his warm hand on my cheek and his other hand firmly grabbing my waist. My heart beat faster and faster as the kiss intensified, mesmerizing me. I took my hands and pushed him back softly and took a deep breath.

We both stood there for a few seconds and just stared at each other completely speechless. There it was again, that radiating feeling that just shook my body.

Review:
6 Stars

".. all I wanted to do was fade away."

"Fading" is a beautifully written, raw and emotional book that took my breath away.
Wow. Truly phenomenal. I could not put it down. It was just... astonishing
E.K. Blair has completely blown me away with this book.

First off, if I could describe the prologue in one word, it would most definitely be, captivating! Since the very beginning, this book had my complete and undivided attention.

This is the story about college student and ballerina, Candace.  One night, after a party, Candace is brutally attacked.. and I mean.. brutally. I'm not gonna go into any of the details because it's something you have to read, but just know, the way the author wrote this heart-wrenching scene, was flawless... my stomach was literally in knots.

"... I swear to God I can start to feel my soul begin to break. Piece by piece I begin to lose myself. My chest is crumbling into painful shards of what used to be me."

After this tragedy, Candace relies heavily on Jase. He was her "rock," her "lifeline" and the way he takes care of her, left me speechless in many occasions. Jase is the best best friend any person could ever ask for. He and his boyfriend, Mark, whom I also loved madly, were just amazing characters! They always supported and protected Candace no matter what. With their help, Candace tried to live.. but really, she was just existing.. until she met Ryan. *sigh* Ryan.. patient, gentle, caring, incredibly hot, Ryan.

"So when did you start making all the rules?"
"When you started making me worry about you."

Slowly, they start building a bond which leads to a beyond beautiful romance. He helps her heal in ways Candace never even imagined.

"Ryan rests his chin on the top of my head, and when I begin to cry again, he tightens his hold on me. I feel safe enough with him to finally have this release."

But.. Ryan has a past.. his own demons.. his own secrets..
As the Synopsis states, "At what point do secrets become lies?"
This is something that throughout the book, you'll know what it means.. and trust me, I played a lot of scenarios in my head regarding it and came up empty handed. Yet, E.K. Blair got it down perfectly!

"Fading" is a brilliantly written book. For the first time, I loved and connected with all the characters. For once, the heroine's insecurities and fears didn't baffle me or piss me off, but rather I understood them and felt compassion towards her.
This book just made its way to my top favorites.

This is a MUST READ!!!

"I never knew home until now. It's with him, in this house, in this bed. My mind and body are free of doubt."

Video Book Trailer

Excerpt:

I stare up at the bright white light that is above me in the cab of the ambulance and focus on my breathing.

What just happened? Is this even real?

“Miss, how do you feel? Can you tell me if anything hurts?” he asks.

How do I feel? I don’t know how I feel. I don’t even know what the hell just happened. I feel scared and numb. I feel everything and nothing all at once. I feel like this is a dream—a goddamn nightmare that I can’t wake up from. I don’t understand. I’m so confused. Fear and misery rip through me and create a new emotion that I can’t even begin to describe. My heated tears roll continuously down the side of my face as I remain staring at the white light.

“Miss?”

“I don’t know,” is all I can manage to say, my only attempt at a response to his very confusing question.

I move my eyes downward to look at my body, and I am covered in a grey wool blanket. Suddenly, I remember that I am naked beneath this blanket. Embarrassment wells up inside of me, and I begin to sob uncontrollably.

“I want to go home!”
